Guide
Does EPF or SOCSO pay for dental treatment?
What the EPF health withdrawal and the PERKESO Employment Injury Scheme cover, what they do not, and the low-cost government option.
Compiled from MOH and MDC sources; not reviewed by a dentist; not medical advice. Government charges shown are from MOH documents and may change — confirm with the clinic.
Does EPF cover dental treatment?
The EPF (KWSP) list of illnesses approved for a health withdrawal does not include routine dental treatment such as scaling, fillings or braces.
The entries closest to dental care are:
- facial bone fractures that need surgery
- craniofacial anomalies in children under 18 that need surgery
- cancer
To apply, EPF requires that you are under 55, have savings in Akaun Sejahtera, and submit a medical report (form LPP-1).
What PERKESO covers
Under PERKESO's Employment Injury Scheme (Skim Bencana Pekerjaan), an insured worker with an employment injury gets free treatment at a PERKESO panel clinic or at a government clinic or hospital. Treatment at a non-panel clinic can be claimed back at the rates in the Fees Act 1951.
PERKESO's page does not list dental benefit amounts. Ask PERKESO about a specific case.
Government dental charges as the low-cost option
At Ministry of Health clinics, Malaysian citizens pay low outpatient charges, for example RM2 for scaling and polishing, RM1 for extracting a permanent tooth and RM4 for root canal treatment (Lampiran E, document dated April 2021; charges may change). Details are in government dental charges.
What this guide does not cover
We do not cover SOCSO invalidity or other PERKESO schemes, or private dental insurance. We found no official source we could check for dental benefits under them.
Common questions
Can I use my EPF savings for scaling, fillings or braces?
The EPF health withdrawal list does not include routine dental treatment. Dental-related entries are limited to facial bone fractures and craniofacial anomalies in under-18s that need surgery, and cancer.
Does PERKESO pay for a tooth injury at work?
PERKESO's Employment Injury Scheme gives free treatment for employment injuries at panel clinics or government clinics and hospitals, and refunds non-panel treatment at Fees Act 1951 rates. Its page does not list dental amounts, so ask PERKESO about your case.
What are the conditions for an EPF health withdrawal?
You must be under 55, have savings in Akaun Sejahtera and submit a medical report (LPP-1), for an illness on EPF's approved list.
